Creating the Derevo Collection

Derevo designers begin with a dream that takes months
to turn into reality.  It may take many trials to perfect the
right artistic interpretation for each concept that Andre'
Gabricht initiates with the talented artists of
G.DeBrekht Studios.

The process begins in G.DeBrekht's Russian studio,
where the artists review designs.  Only the designs that
the artists themselves would like to own are selected to
become part of the G.DeBrekht line.  Once selected, the
design moves from art village to art village, where highly
gifted artisans contribute their talents to carving, molding,
and painting each piece.

In one village are the best wood carvers; in another the best
decorative painters; in another the illustrator renowned for the
ability to paint a story.  Completion of the first piece may take
weeks or months before it meets the high standards of
G.DeBrekht.  Only then is it ready to become part of the
Derevo Collection.

Using a unique wood composite medium, each piece is first
hand-cast to match the hand-carved original so closely that
the wood-carver cannot tell the difference.  At this stage, a small
group of artists around the world - each trained in the Russian
techniques of decoration and story painting - meticulously copy
the original.

Using pigments and palettes that duplicate those used in Russian
art villages, theses gifted artists work freehand to create the
beautiful scenes and intricate decorations, without using stencils
or guides of any kind.  Many of the techniques used in the
decorating process date back centuries.

Because this process involves so much time and care, and is
accomplished by our elite team of artists, each piece in the
Derevo Collection is limited to no more than 1,200 - 1,500
pieces produced over a period of two years.

We hope you enjoyed reading of this fine technique which
will enable you to more appreciate the detail of the
G.DeBreckht Collections.
